4 Korean War veterans from Hamburg honored with Peace Medal

Reading Eagle - 9/24/2020

Sep. 23--Four Korean War veterans from Hamburg were presented with the Korean Peace Medal at the monthly meeting of VFW Post 216.

The medal is issued by the Korean government to veterans of that war in recognition of their service with the United Nations forces that fought to drive back the invading forces from the North.

Receiving the medals were: Thomas Confer, who served with the 60th Ordnance Group; Kervin Kline, who served with the 34th Infantry Reg. 10th Armor; Robert Packard who served with the U.S. Air Force as an ACW operator; and Robert Wenrich, who served with the 7th Infantry Division.

All four are members of Pst 216, and Post Commander Dennis Carter presented the medals.

Anyone knowing of a local Korean War veteran who has not received this award may contact the post by mail at VFW Post 216, ATTN PIO, 1 S. Fourth St., Hamburg, Pa. 19526. A copy of the veteran's DD214 is required to submit with your packet.
