The veterans selling Christmas trees at the old Geneseo Central School bus garage received a special delivery on Saturday

Livingston County News - 12/12/2017

The veterans selling Christmas trees at the old Geneseo Central School bus garage received a special delivery on Saturday afternoon.

Staff from ESL Federal Credit Union in Geneseo brought lunch to the veterans, who are members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5005 and American Legion Post 271.

"They are such a great group of gentlemen, so humble," said Jane Wagorn, branch manager of the Geneseo ESL.

The Christmas tree sale is the largest fundraiser for the veterans' organizations. The effort typically sell about 450 trees each year. It is also an opportunity to make the holiday a little brighter for those less fortunate. With help from the Geneseo Central School District, the VFW Post invites five families to select any tree on the lot.

Other fundraisers and community events include a golf tournament, ice cream socials, visits to the Canandaigua and Batavia VA hospitals, trips to Morgan Estates, donations to the food pantry, and more.

ESL Federal Credit Union has been involved with the VFW golf tournament for years.

"We love that we had the opportunity to work with this group," said Wagorn.

Saturday's lunch delivery, she said, was a way she and her staff could show a small token of their appreciation to the veterans.
